Sustainable development of cycling
in the Muránska Planina National Park

The main objective of the project is the development of cycling tourism in the Muránska Planina National Park with an emphasis on sustainable access to natural sites and attractions for visitors in natural tourism.

The specific objectives of the project include making the Muránska planina NP and points of interest accessible through new cycling routes with an emphasis on linking important points of interest and interpreting natural and cultural heritage. Also improving the quality of the existing cycling routes, through the renewal of signage and maintenance of the routes.

Raising the awareness of cyclists will be supported by the placement of cycling maps as information elements, where, in addition to the map version of the offered cycling routes, they will also learn about the needs of nature and landscape protection. In a way, the project will be a pilot within the Slovak Republic in the process of monitoring and analysing the movement of cyclists in the National Park.

The analysis of the collected data offers us possibilities to monitor the intensity of the environmental burden. Last but not least, coordination of activities and cooperation in the field of cycling tourism in the Muránska Planina National Park with an emphasis on nature protection so that the development of cycling tourism is managed in accordance with the Principles, which were also proposed in the Strategy for the Development of Sustainable Tourism in the Muránska Planina National Park until 2030.
